A Windy Day

August 10/10 - it finally happened.

After more than 2 years, the inevitable arrived. Simply a quick discussion - well it was more like a one way text message -  "It was good working with you, but...here's your severance package - Sorry" - and the meeting was over.

So...now I'm physically sitting on this windswept, quiet beach, listening to those insistent, white-capped waves and pondering how I can effect these unrelenting tides of change...

Learning...something new

Changes...just happen.

For those over which I have control, I've decided to indeed, take control...

I thought I'd learn something new, focus my attention on and I'll learn SQL. I'll start here:

Shifting...again

Strange occurrences on Friday, but I'm not sure if it is coincidence or planned.

Is my role being revised again, setup to restrict or reduce my effectiveness? If planned or merely a coincidence, the effect is the same.

I've been told by the wavemaker, the shifter, that it was an urgent occurence and could not be delayed...it makes me wonder though that this urgent matter had to happen on my scheduled absence!!!

Is it just speculation, my imagination running wild? I'll need to watch closely for additional signs, ready the lifeboat to prepare to ride it out - whatever it may be. One thing's certain, I'm not ready to go down...

Changes ...

It just occurred to me...

This year another kind of wave will roll in and clang the bells of
my life buoy, a marker, a significant life milestone, my xlxth
birthday.

I haven't really thought about it much, until now and I'm not quite
sure what I'm feeling right now... I'll just sleep on it.

I'm sure though that what's coming is inevitable...so, I'll just roll
with it...

Tides Have Changed

Last Friday, the tide rolled in again... bringing with it another significant change; for my staff, for me. It was a meeting with my boss, my mentor.

Unexpected and "unthinkable", until that moment. It was truly creative - I was to lead a new team; a dynamic, high profile assignment, while I was to relinquish my leadership of my current team.

My initial reaction was disbelief, thinking I heard incorrectly; quickly transitioning to immediate implications - personally, professionally, and to my current staff and workload - and long term opportunities relating to personal and professional growth; and finally acceptance, yes acceptance and not surrender.

After thinking about it more after the meeting, it was indeed an opportunity; challenging but definitely a tremendous opportunity.

I am looking forward to tomorrow's all staff meeting when our boss will make the announcement. I don't know what my current staff's reaction will be to the news and I hope they take it well... only time will tell.

Will the tide recede peacefully or gush out with a riptide in its wake...

The Tides of Change

It's been a year of significant change where the transition, like a tsunami, overwhelmed those in its wake. Some simply succumbed to unrelenting pressure - spent, without hope, defeated, and dead within. Others actively sought escape - hopeful for a new experience and self-directed change. Yet others like me decided to ride the wave - energized, absurdly determined to shape the transition wave we were currently riding. Absurd...
